Earth Sandwich
I think I can safely speak for both myself and Shaina when I say that this week’s update ended up being the most challenging yet. And, as I haven’t properly introduced myself yet, I don’t think you can truly appreciate the difficulty in communication that exists between myself and my artistic counterpart.
For you see, me and Shaina on complete opposite sides of the world right now. Shaina is in the east coast of the US enjoying her first year at a liberal art’s college, while I’m spending my sophomore days studying abroad in lovely Japan. And so collaborating on this project becomes an exercise in extremes: I either stay up late to catch Shaina online during her morning classes (yes, I said during), or wake up before my 45-minute commute to school and to talk to her before she goes to bed. Fun stuff!
What this means is, often when Shaina is actually working on a page, I’m unavailable to clarify my writing or offer feedback on her work. Instead, she must email me her sketches so I can respond back with corrections the next day. This is not the fastest way to work with someone, and with this page in particular things would have progressed much smoother if we were in the same physical room.
However, as our comic advances in the coming weeks, there will hopefully be less creative confusion and the quality of the work will simply increase. Sounds good, yeah? So stick around, check back in the coming weeks, and let us know what you think of this global enterprise.
